Biography

Snow has always been his life. Growing up in Val Gardena, he first enjoyed alpine skiing and freestyle, before a turning point arrived thanks to his sister, who joined a project led by Romed Moroder focused on ski jumping. The opportunity to try this new discipline – which accompanied him until the age of 15 – fascinated him, but the lack of skis eventually steered him towards Nordic combined.

His perseverance paid off. Between 27 and 28 January 2017, Costa secured a historic double third place in the Gundersen events on the normal hill in Seefeld, Austria. Those results made him only the third Italian ever – after Andrea Longo and Alessandro Pittin – to step onto a World Cup individual podium in Nordic combined.

Away from competition, one of his greatest passions is diving: freediving, in particular, helps him learn how to manage emotions and inner balance. In April 2024, he surprisingly announced his retirement. However, his deep love for sport and the almost sacred meaning of competing at a home Olympic Games gave him the decisive push to return to competition once again.
