Starting out from his hometown of Forni Avoltri in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in recent years he moved to South Tyrol, where he lives with his wife Alice Franco—an open-water swimming champion who won bronze in the 25 km at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai—and their young son Leonardo.
At the age of ten, he began biathlon at Monte Coglians with compressed air rifles, and it was love at first sight. After the best season of his competitive career in the IBU Cup, finishing among the top ten in the overall standings as well as in both sprint and pursuit rankings, in March 2025 (aged 31) he earned his first-ever World Cup call-up, competing in Oslo at the Holmenkollen venue.
In January 2026, he doubled down at the Ruhpolding stage, where he was part of the men’s relay team that finished ninth, placed 34th in the sprint and broke into the top 30 in the pursuit, achieving these results with just one shooting error.
Brother of Mirco Romanin, head coach of the women’s national team, in his free time he enjoys the mountains through cycling, running and hiking, and relaxes by playing the guitar. Commitment and resilience have allowed him to reach milestones that once seemed almost unthinkable. The dream continues at the Milano Cortina Games.
