He is the leading figure of Italian cross-country skiing, a champion who has claimed two Olympic silver medals, seven world championship medals – including gold in the freestyle sprint at Lahti 2017 – 17 individual World Cup victories and, in the sprint discipline, two Crystal Globes (2016 and 2021). He celebrated the latter success by marrying former teammate Greta Laurent, his long-time partner, with whom he shares his two sons, Alexis and Fabien.
As a teenager, he loved playing football and was also the highly regarded percussionist of his hometown band. His parents, Maricla and Enrico, have believed in him all his life – in “Chicco” the perfectionist, who wins with his mind, studies every detail and leaves nothing to chance. A timeless champion and a source of inspiration for younger athletes, the Olympic snow ignites him. The first flag bearer in history born in the Aosta Valley, at Milano Cortina he is chasing a feat that could bring the curtain down on a career lived as a true number one.
