A passion for snow sports ran through his family long before he was born. He put on his first pair of skis before the age of three, under the supervision of his father, also a ski instructor. At six, he entered his first race and realised competitive skiing would be his future. He won the Trofeo Topolino twice and began racing in FIS events at 15.
Around the time he reached adulthood, he risked losing his way and chose to leave home, spending an entire summer working as a shepherd in a mountain hut in Switzerland to return with renewed energy. It was his turning point. World Championship silver medallist in downhill in 2013 and world champion in super-G in 2019, he has 24 World Cup victories—second among Italian men (alongside Gustavo Thöni) behind record-holder Alberto Tomba (50). Four of those wins came on the iconic Streif in Kitzbühel (three downhill, one super-G) and seven on the Olympic snow of Bormio (six downhill, one super-G).
Away from the slopes, he is a straightforward mountain lad who loves being with family, cooking traditional dishes, and finding his rhythm with a bit of metal and rock. At Milano Cortina, the “King of the Stelvio” wants to stamp his signature on more wonders.
